[GAP Forum] Workshop on Computational Group Theory and Computational Representation Theory

Dear Colleagues

We are pleased to announce a 

Workshop on Computational Group Theory and Computational Representation Theory

27th to 31st January 2020, Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge UK. 

This  workshop  has  two  main  components.  The  first is, in part for the benefit  
of those researchers who do  not currently use computational tools
in  their research, to give an introduction to computing with finite simple
groups,  representations, algebraic  groups, abstract  categories and other
related topics.

The  second is  to discuss  big challenges  in computational representation
theory.  Examples  are  the  classification  of maximal subgroups of finite
simple groups, and the various conjectures on p-local subgroups. Another is
the Matrix Group Recognition Project: what are the major open problems? How
can  the  existing  machinery  be  best  used?  A  last one is the state of
techniques  to  work  with  linear  groups  defined  over infinite domains.
Machinery in this area remains very limited.
